Production Engineer – AV Systems

About Robolights
From our premises in Exeter, we design, develop and manufacture bespoke, customised electrical, AV and mechanical products for entertainment venues across the Globe, taking the requirements of our clients and making them a reality. Since 1989, we have built up a great reputation for providing high quality products and services made possible by a tightknit team with many years of experience. Using our specialist knowledge and skills we produce all types of stage lighting & audio facility panels, control panels, high power distribution units and AV System hardware for permanent or temporary installation.
Robolights supplies directly to live entertainment venues and specialist installers which sees our products installed in around 70% of West End venues such as the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Her Majesty’s Theatre, along with some of the most renowned live music venues across the UK.
Over the years, Robolights has expanded its activities into other exciting sectors, seeing us working with some of the World’s leading multinational technology companies and to manufacture AV system hardware & other products for luxury cruise ships and famous sporting venues and events.
The job.
As AV Systems Production Engineer you will be a valuable part of our production team. You will need to have excellent hands on skills, be proactive, self-motivated, knowledgeable, co-operative and enthusiastic about all things AV and with an interest in the wider manufacturing process.
The hours.
This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (inclusive of a one-hour lunchbreak) based at Robolights Exeter premises at Marsh Barton.
Main responsibilities.
You will be working on a number of projects each with new challenges and specific requirements as almost everything we build for our clients is bespoke to match their needs. Your role will involve the final assembly, looming and terminating a wide range of AV cabling and hardware and the testing of our products prior to shipping so you will be central to the upkeep of our high standards of manufacturing, carefully using all your skills to produce quality, compliant products.
Duties will include.
- Assembly and wiring of AV system hardware and terminating specialist connectors using crimp and solder terminations.
- Looming and interconnecting hardware components.
- Working from technical drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams to correctly assemble products in accordance with relevant standards and practices.
- Contributing to the manufacturing and assembly process using your AV systems knowledge and experience.
- Working as part of a small team.
- Following in house process control and quality control procedures.
- Maintaining clean, efficient and tidy working areas.
- Following all necessary health & safety procedures relative to each activity.
Qualifications and Skills – Essential
- Recognised, appropriate technical qualifications, for example, NVQ level 3, SVQ/NVQ level 3, Level 3 vocational award, A-Level, BTEC National Certificate or Diploma.
- Experience of AV / electronic assembly.
- Knowledge of AV systems and components.
- Proven soldering, cable preparation and terminating skills.
- Ability to communicate well with other team members.
- Excellent hands on practical skills.
- Ability to accurately follow drawings and technical documentation.
- A willingness to work as part of a wider team and develop your own potential.
Qualifications & Skills – Desirable
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Experience or understanding of AV systems applicable to the entertainment industry.
