Sheet Metalworker & Fabricator
Are you an enthusiastic, fabricator experienced in light gauge sheet metalwork and general steel fabrication? If so, this could be the job for you as Robolights are looking to recruit a full time Sheet Metalworker & Fabricator to join our Production team.

From our premises in Exeter, we design, develop and manufacture bespoke, customised electrical and mechanical products for entertainment venues across the Globe, taking the requirements of our clients and making them a reality. Since 1989, we have built up a great reputation for providing high quality products and services made possible by a tightknit team with many years of experience. Using our specialist knowledge and skills we produce all types of stage lighting & audio facility panels, control panels, high power distribution units and replica items for permanent or temporary installation.
Robolights supplies to specialist installers and also directly to live entertainment venues which sees our products in use in around 70% of UK West End theatres such as the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and The Royal Opera House Covent Garden. Our products are also installed in some of the most renowned live music venues across the UK, like the O2 Academy Edinburgh and the O2 Victoria Warehouse Manchester.
Over the years, Robolights has expanded its activities into other exciting sectors too, seeing us working with some of the World’s leading multinational technology companies and to manufacture products for luxury cruise ships and famous sporting venues and events.
The job.
As Sheet Metalworker & Fabricator you will be a valuable part of our production team. You will need to have excellent hands on skills, be proactive, self-motivated, knowledgeable, co-operative and enthusiastic with an interest in the wider manufacturing process.
The hours.
This is a full-time role, 35 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm (inclusive of a one-hour lunchbreak) based at Robolights Exeter premises at Marsh Barton.
Main responsibilities.
You will be working on many different projects each with new challenges and specific requirements as almost everything we build for our clients is bespoke. Your role will involve reading and interpreting engineering drawings and fabricating a broad range of precision sheet metal enclosures, tubular steel frames and facia panels to a high quality. You will be central to the upkeep of our high standards of fabrication, carefully using all your skills to produce quality, compliant products.
Duties will include.
- Liaising with the design team and working from engineering drawings.
- Processing laser cut sheet steel, including deburring, countersinking holes and the fitting of studs and threaded inserts.
- Operation of our press brake to fold sheet steel.
- High quality MIG & TIG welding of enclosures and tubular steel frameworks.
- Working with mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium & brass sheet, rod and bar and engineering plastics.
- Use of workshop machinery including tapping machines, shears, milling machines, lathes, presses and pilar drills.
- Use of various hand power tools for sanding and finishing processes.
- Close liaison and communication with other departments to ensure efficient workflow.
- Working as part of a small team.
- Following in house process control and quality control procedures.
- Maintaining clean, efficient and tidy working areas.
- Following all necessary health & safety procedures relative to each activity.
Qualifications and Skills – Essential
- Experienced in general fabrication, with a track record of producing a wide range of sheet metal and other fabricated items.
- Excellent hands on practical skills.
- Ability to weld to a high standard using MIG & TIG.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings accurately.
- Ability to communicate well with other team members, the design team and project managers to develop products and solve problems.
- A willingness to work as part of a wider team and develop your full potential.
Qualifications & Skills – Desirable
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Experience or understanding of the technical aspects of the entertainment industry.
- Formal qualifications in a related trade or occupation.

Salary: From £25,000 pa. Depending on experience and qualifications.
